I’m Alex Furse, an engineer by training and a healthcare operator at heart. As Vice-President of Business Development, Marketing & Service at Minogue Medical, I help clinicians evaluate, adopt, and scale technologies that genuinely improve patient care across Canada. I bring a clinical-engineering mindset to commercial strategy, so new tools don’t just launch, they land in the OR, the sim lab, and the ward where they can make a difference.
My path started at the University of Toronto, where I completed a BASc in Applied Science and an MHSc in Clinical Engineering. Early on, I worked hands-on in surgical robotics and hospital tech, supporting teams clinically and technically, while contributing to research in biomeds and interventional devices. That mix of lab, clinic, and real-world implementation still informs how I write and lead today.
Day to day, I collaborate with surgeons, nurses, educators, and innovators to translate “great idea” into “standard of care.” Beyond the product itself, I focus on pathways, training, economics, and evidence; so adoption is safe, sustainable, and reimbursable. I’ve led workshops on health technology assessment and the hospital perspective on value, helping startups and teams navigate the realities between pilots and procurement.
Outside of work, I’m first and foremost a dad. Fatherhood shapes my priorities: clear communication, calm under pressure, and the long view. Friends know me as the person who shows up, listens hard, and finds practical ways to help. That same energy shows up in my leadership style: supportive, direct, and team-first.
If you’re interested in essays that bridge engineering rigor with bedside reality, and a human, non-AI collaborative tone, I’d love to connect and trade notes.
